"Heather & Tillie" Bradberry

This is our two "awesome" adopted girls. My husband decided we had to adopt a
greyhound, because he had fallen in love with the ones that his sister had
adopted. To be honest, I wanted to get a great dane. So we decided to get one
of each. So we applied to adopt and I was going to wait for my great dane to
be born.
We got the call that a black greyhound had been rescued from Mississippi, but
they didn't know her background and she had never been a racer, because she
had no ear markings. We decided that we would give "Heather" a home. She
arrived on February 17, this year. She was such a shy and timid girl that our
hearts just went out to her instantly. She warmed up slowly but within a week,
she was up on the couch with me. Since I'm the one home during the day, it was
me she followed from room to room. She gradually developed on her own routine
and schedule.
It wasn't long before I knew that I wouldn't be getting a great dane, that I
had to send in another application to adopt another one of these truly
awesome animals. So I made a call do the kennel where we got "Heather"
and sent in my second application. On April 12, we went to look at the greys
that were already at the kennel waiting to be adopted. "Tillie" was the first
one she brought out. We both received tiny little kisses from her and when we
took her leash to get to know her while Joan went go get another dog, "Tillie"
started for the door as if to say,"O.K, I'll take you, lets go, I'm ready to
go home." The other girls we saw were beautiful, but somehow, we knew that we
had to have "Tillie".
Now we had our two girls. Things weren't quite like we thought they would be
when we arrived home with Tillie. Heather thought she was doing fine being "an
only child" (our 12 yr old daughter and three grandsons, didn't
count). We knew that we has our work cut out for us if we were going to
keep Tillie. It took a several days, and some special pampering to let Heather
know she had not been replaced, she had only gotten a new friend. Tillie did
her part to make Heather accept her. She let "Heather" become the 'mother' of
the two and the mother intinct took over. A few runs at together at the
ballpark also helped them to bond.
Now, we can't imagine our lives without these two beautiful girls. My husband
and I have both had non-greyhounds throughout our lives, but from here on, I
don't think we'll have anything but greyhounds. They require so little - just
someone to love them, and give so much.
* Side Notes ~ "Tillie" sired by Hm's Flamboyant and born to Go Hollywood on
October 31, 2000. She raced as "Tin Halo".
